Moved by the number of orphaned children within the township who are locked into a cycle of poverty and begging we have begun a sponsorship program whereby we have been able to provide school uniforms and to pay the fees for one year for a small number of orphaned children.

The children hardly looked the same when we were able to provide them with school uniforms.
Of course, it is not enough to give them a one-year passage without following through. We do not have the sponsors to guarantee more than one year of education, but we have provided seedlings for them to grow to help pay their fees for next year.

Dressed in their new uniforms the children posed for a photo, still looking shy and lacking confidence.
We caught up with them during our September visit and they came into school for some up to date pictures. Unfortunately one of them was sick, but their enthusiasm and delight at being scholars was confirmation that we had done the right thing. “I’d like to be a doctor.” said one of them.
We wonder how many children in the UK value their education quite as much as these.
£25 will pay the fees and get a starter uniform for other children like these. Would you like to sponsor a child and turn disadvantage into hope?

The school that they attend is still without a water or electricity supply. The overcrowding is being tackled in a very practical way. At least until the rainy season starts:- something that they DO have though, is enthusiasm.
Some people in this world are worthy of our support.
