From Street Kid to Charity Leader
Brian Kayongo lost his father at the age of 5 and was sent to live with relatives. After some very disturbing experiences at the age of 7 he set off on foot to the capital Lusaka and lived as a street kid.
Rescued and nurtured by a local church elder he was able to begin his education and upon leaving school started a youth charity developing awareness of STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).
This grew in size until in 2005 his efforts were recognised and in 2006 he won the Commonwealth Gold Award.
He subsequently became the Chairperson of National Youth Network on Population and Development. He is now the President of Africa Youth and Adolescent Network and sits on the UN Global Youth Advisory Panel of the UNFPA.
Brian is leaving his work as the director of the charity to complete his Degree qualifications and serve as Project Director for Global Family Network.
